Introducing the Montier Homestead! This Georgian Colonial has a rich & deep history in the Delaware Valley, going all the way back to the founding of Pennsylvania & the very first Mayor of Philadelphia, Humphrey Morrey! A documentary about the history of the property was produced by WHYY-TV in 2018 (The Montiers: An American Story) after Dr. William Pickens III, the 9th great grandson of Humphrey Morrey discovered two family portraits, painted in 1840, under the bed of an Uncle. These portraits now hang in The Philadelphia Museum of Art. Until you turn into the driveway, you get barely a glimpse of the home. It is well hidden behind a series of large evergreens which rim the road. The original portion of the house was constructed in 1772, with additions in the 1840's and 1860's. Exquisitely restored, retaining most of the original details, the house has been modernized with a new kitchen, new bathrooms and air conditioning. Enter into the central hall, and you will be immediately taken by the sense of history that continues to fill these walls, from the original wide-plank Southern Yellow Pine floors to the oversized original windows (still retaining the wavy glass) that flood the home with light all day. The two front rooms (living & dining) retain all of the original details, with built-in display shelves, intricate mantels & a beamed ceiling. The completely updated kitchen (by Blue Bell Kitchens) has soapstone counters, a WOLF gas cooktop, two wall ovens (one a combo microwave), a set of Fisher & Paykel dishwasher drawers & a side-by-side fridge. A mudroom connects to the rear yard & has a pantry/storage closet. The original 1772 portion of the house is now a relaxing Den tucked at the rear of the home, with a glazed brick floor and 2 display cabinets for books (or your knic-knacs!). A vent-less gas insert in the original cooking hearth provides an abundance of warmth during the chilly Winter months. Out back, the heated sunroom has windows on 3 sides and the best views of all the specimen plantings & ornamental pond. Upstairs, the original birthing room is a lovely guest suite with a completely renovated bath (with exposed stone walls & roof rafters!). The entire remainder of the 2nd floor has been creatively combined to be a fanciful master suite. The large, bright, airy bedroom retains one of the original fireplaces, now fitted with a convenient to use, vent-less gas insert. Another large room provides an abundance of drawers & cabinets and another space to dress (walk-in closet is simply not sufficient to describe this space!). The elegant master bath has a spa-like, glass-enclosed shower, an abundance of overhead lighting, an area for a dressing table & the washer & dryer tucked behind bi-fold doors.
